Student’s are taught that “ch” sounds /sh/ in words such as champagne, machine, brochure, parachute and schedule. Memory strategy skills are encouraged to help remember the spelling of these words. Then there is a discrimination activity where students have to sort “ch” words according to their sound. So “ch” sounding /ch/ as in church, “ch” sounding /sh/ as in champagne and “ch” saying /k/ as in Christmas.
