About us

Mandy Swift"Hands On Teaching" is about providing a fun and enjoyable way to learn to read and spell. The principal is to teach to the strengths and remediate the difficulties using a wide range of multisensory worksheets, activities and games. It is "Active Learning" where the student is totally involved in their own learning and they are encouraged to develop and use their own multisensory strategies.

"Hands On Teaching" started to evolve many years ago when my son was diagnosed as dyslexic at the age of seven. I was frustrated by the real lack of practical and "Hands On" help that was available.

I was determined to get involved and studied for a Diploma in Special Needs at the Hornsby International Dyslexia Centre. I later became a tutor at the college consolidating my knowledge and training other candidates to become special needs teachers. I then practised as a special needs teacher for ten years working at the Hawthorns School in Bletchingley, Surrey and also from home providing 5-15 year olds with individual and group learning sessions. I focused on Spelling, Reading, Comprehension, Expressive Writing, Times Tables, Maths, Study Skills and Touch-Typing.

From this experience and the practical learning tools that I have developed "Hands On Teaching" has emerged. "Hands On Teaching" aims to reach those of any age group with learning challenges helping them build up strategies to assist them to move forward confidently with their occupations and studies.
